After writing my post on Thursday, I was trying to drift off to bed when my stomach started rumbling so ferociously I could hardly think straight. I went out to get some food with a couple friends, and when we returned, there were Shannon and Laura in the middle of the foyer with a opened box and greenery everywhere. Apparently they found a tree in the attic and where attempting to put it together. We then decided to make an event of it. We put on Christmas tunes and retrieved all the ornaments, centerpieces, mantle decorations, and nutcrackers we could find, and transformed the downstairs of the house into a beautiful and festive workshop. We were so excited for everyone else to wake up and see the holiday cheer, and we all promised not to tell anyone we did it... if anyone asked, elves did it.
Unfortunately, our house mom didn't have as much cheer as we thought she would. Our house ended up receiving stating that whoever put up the decorations should have asked first, and they must be taken down before we go home for winter break. Well, okay then. Grinch. I don't even mind her reaction, though, because we had lots of fun decorating the mantle and tree, since most of us haven't been able to decorate our tree at home for a few years.
Christmas Formals at the fraternities began on Friday night. I've had a recent epiphany regarding fraternity formals. You have a much smaller chance of being asked when you have a boyfriend. True story. So since I knew some of my friends would be out galavanting, I drove to Richmond for the weekend instead. That, of course, means that I've been doing about three times more homework than I would accomplish during a weekend in Charlottesville, due to the lack of friends distracting me and the presence of a boyfriend with impeccable self control.
I'm a little sorry about the content of this blog lately, because I haven't really been in many drinking situations lately--and I really like it that way. It is so much easier to not even be out because you don't need to worry about dodging a drink, or making up a story. It's not that people are trying to get obliterated, but it is fairly out of character for someone to even turn town one beer while having a conversation with one. Luckily from the moment we return from Thanksgiving break to the moment we go home for Christmas break, I will always have a legitimate excuse: finals. Everyone's exam schedule is different and so no one can every prove you wrong if you say you have a lot of work to get done. In fact, I even saw a few other people saying that at DKE on Thursday night. They weren't going to drink that night because they wanted to be in the library by 9:00 am the next morning. So lest you think I've been touching too much on the "party hard" aspect of UVA in this blog, here is reassurance that the "work hard" is present and does, in fact, precede the former.
Thursdays is having a Christmas formal next Saturday, which will be fun I think. It's a Semi-Formal at Trinity--it's nice because usually a girls' organization doesn't do Christmas events. Looking forward to it, and, as always, so happy to be going to a school that emphasized heavily on all things Christmas-y. Speaking of, the Lighting of the Lawn will be on December 6. Can't wait!
