Thursdays on a Saturday

Lighting of the Lawn was great! It really made the holiday spirit official. I went with a few girls in Kappa and we were pretty close up. Last yeah I went earlier in the night and walked around the lawn looking at the ice sculptures and grabbing hot chocolate, but that was because Bobby's lawn room was available if I ever got too cold or tired. So this year I went around 9:30, about 10 minutes before the actual lighting took place. I also caught the last song the Hullabahoos sang, which was amazing because it was a Mumford and Sons song, getting me ridiculously excited for their concert (which is more than two months away).

The head of the Lighting of the Lawn (LOTL) Committee said a few words and read a few letters from the 7 Society and the Angel Society. She also said some other things but the crowd's chatter was too loud. Then two deans got up and read a long poem about all the students at UVA--a few stanzas for each class. The 2nd and 3rd year parts weren't that great, mostly because there is nothing special about either of these years, but the 4th year part was great and sentimental, and the 1st year part was pretty hysterical cause they pretty much ragged on them the entire time. I always like when teachers can condone harmless fun, like making fun of freshman--always important to maintain a sense of humor.

Friday night was the Zete Christmas formal, which began at Raleigh Court and moved on to the Biltmore. It was really nice because it was a small group of people--they were pretty strict about keeping it boys and their dates, and so there weren't a lot of extra people. One fourth year dressed up as Santa and read the poem he made making fun of all the other guys, and after the poem we went to Biltmore.

Last night, Thursdays had a Christmas formal at Trinity, which wasn't really a "date" affair, and instead was just all of our friends who we invited, so it was really fun. We got there at 9 which is pretty early in the night time circuit, and so by the time 11:30 rolled around I was already ready to go home. I left Trinity just before midnight, at this point not really caring about what I would miss, because a lot of nights out become interchangeable. It's nice to say I was there, but there is no need to stay out until the bar closes, or make the night the Best Night Ever.

Today has been a very crummy day, weather wise, which goes hand in hand with the general miserable sentiment people had about studying for finals. I have two tomorrow, and one on Tuesday, which is a miserable triple threat, but it will be nice to get most of my work out of the way. Which brings me to right now, writing this in the Comm School where Bailey and I have come to study since it's the only time we get to see Megan. Literally.
