Quite a Surprise!

I was right when I said this weekend would be more eventful. Not only was tapping a great night for our guy friends who got in, but also poured rain, and since most of us were dressed in jean shorts and rain boots for a themed party, it made for some fabulous puddle runs and soaking wet dance parties.

My friends and I went to KA just as the rain began, as we waited for the older men of Eli to arrived, we danced outside in the rain. The boys came, grabbing the younger, tapped guys and led them to the porch. We only got to watch about 10 minutes before they marched off in their robes and the Eli Banana drum. At that point we decided to head over to DKE and check out the mechanical bull. Well, as luck would have it, we missed the bull, and the bull, padding, and engine were all being packed up and put away, to make more room to dance. I wasn't too upset though, and the rest of the night was pretty fun. The band was a collection of older biker types/rednecks, and the dancing was fun and swing dancy, and events like those are pretty easy to not drink at. I'll reiterate again what I've said before, but dancing parties are easier to be sober at than bar nights.

Friday I woke up excited for parents formal and streaked orange legs. After my midterm on Wednesday I went with a couple friends to get a spray tan. It went on nicely and evenly and I listened to all the directions, especially when it said to stay dry for 4 hours-- I stayed dry for 24. So you can imagine my surprise when I looked at my legs Friday to see three large, horizontal, pale streaks: one where my shorts ended, one where my rain boots stopped, and one where my socks ended. It ended up being alright as I scrubbed them until the color evened out. I then met up with our sororities ELC representative to take her on a hike and entertain her for a few hours before her meeting with the Theta's resident. The ELC sends reps to all Theta chapters to see how they are doing. So after a couple hours oh hiking aka inclined walking, I was back in time for my hair appointment. (My life is busy and stressful at times.)

I received a text from my date, Henry, asking about the plan to meet up later. I asked him to meet me at a pregame at Elmo at 4, where we'd take pictures and hangout until catching a 5:30 bus. Henry asked if we could just meet at the bus. I was tiny bit annoyed and sad, since first my parents couldn't make it, and then my boyfriend couldn't, but I responded that it was ok, and I'd see him then. Just before 5:30, Bailey and her date told me I had to walk with them, even though I was in the middle of a conversation.  I followed them to the bus, and when I tried to cross the street to the first bus, Bailey's date insisted we walk further up the street to the second bus. Never mind my hurting feet, I'm thinking, How selfish. I space out on the boys in tuxedos across the street walking towards us, and I realize one of them looks like Bobby. How odd, I've never met his doppleganger. Upon closer look, though, I realize that is was Bobby. He, Henry, Bailey, and a handful of my friends had all been in on this plan and helped plan for this surprise.

After the great reunion we began the bus ride to Ash Lawn, which was a bit further away than Boar's Head, but well worth it. It was a gorgeous venue with lights outdoors and the main event underneath a heated tent. The dance floor was a little too small, but the food was delicious, and the atmosphere and band were great. The pictures were prettier as well, since the foliage and scenery were more impressive than last years.

The one difficult part of the evening was buying drink tickets. I felt bad that I couldn't supply drink tickets for my date, since that is usually how it goes. Luckily Bobby knows both that I'm not drinking, and that my parents couldn't come, and so he had every intention of paying for his own drinks. Just as he was about to buy them, though, Sammy Pedersen's dad handed Bobby a handful of tickets. It was a very nice gesture, and removed a weight off of my shoulders for the night.

The night was a huge success, and alcohol played no part in it. A great weekend, if I do say so myself.
